FD&D Overview

Freight, Demurrage and Defence (FD&D) is a specialized legal cost protection offered by the Association to its members. It assists members in handling various contractual disputes arising from shipping operations, provides legal advice, and supports members in negotiations.

 

Scope of Cover

FD&D primarily covers reasonable legal costs incurred from the following matters or events:
Charterparty disputes, bill of lading and other shipping document disputes, collisions, salvage, towage, general average, supply and repair contract disputes, ship sale and purchase agreement disputes, shipbuilding contract disputes, ship mortgage contract disputes, etc.

 

Our Service

The Association will cover reasonable and necessary legal expenses incurred during case handling, including lawyers' fees, arbitration costs, investigation expenses, and other related legal costs. Through a professional management mechanism, the Association assists members in resolving disputes in the most appropriate manner. Our in-house legal and claims team, together with our network of domestic and international legal partners, provides support throughout the entire process, ensuring members receive timely, robust, and professional assistance in legal proceedings

 

Membership Fee Principle

Membership fees are strictly implemented in accordance with the charging system approved by the Members’ Assembly. The fee is calculated as: Membership Fee = Billing Unit × Risk Rate.
